What’s Your Story?

Tell the story of your business through your unique selling points—the ones that resonate with your target clients and inspire them to share — and to grow your business.

Let’s talk. We’ll start with your story.

My Six Favorite

Design Features

“Whatever business you’re in, your story will drive the tone, structure and style of your website design, and be consistent across all marketing platforms. Once we clarify your story, here are six design features that contribute to my process of creating your website.”

  1. Bold & Splashy Page

Movie posters and magazine covers know the power of a bold image and splashy headline. That’s how I approach a site’s landing page. Words + Pictures need to delivery your message at a glance. Are you traditional? Casual? Or another point on the bold-and-splashy spectrum?

Just like the fashions you choose to wear at work, a landing page shows off your style and sets a tone.

2. Scroll vs. Click

Let’s face it: scrolling is like dating before you make the commitment to click. Visitors to your site will first be drawn to the image and the headlines that grab them, then they will scroll for more information before venturing to the finer details of your pages. That is, unless your site is a one-pager. No-click sites represent the latest trend in web design.

Your clients like to scroll. Browsing feels like freedom. Let’s make your site browse-worthy.

3. Collection of Images

As a writer, I work with words. But as a designer, I know images can be more powerful. For that reason, whenever a site has a collection of images that make sense together, I arrange them in a gallery, which can serve beautifully as a table of contents.

Each image clicks to a story.

4. Pictures Lead to Stories

When I designed this e-magazine, I knew visitors to the site would be real estate buyers and expect pictures. But I needed to entice them to read the stories that high-end realtors commissioned me to write. A cover page was the perfect solution. Money shots of the properties rotate until visitors enter the site and read the stories.

A cover page with rotating pictures can entice visitors to explore more.

5. Private Sites & Email Marketing Campaigns

Your website can be private by requiring a password. We can send out invitations to a target audience to help assure they’ll visit. Naturally, Squarespace offers an email marketing tool for streamlined functionality.

Integration of your website with e-mail campaign functionality keeps your marketing process easy, efficient — and best of all — effective.

6. Logical Structure

Deciding on the sequence of information is essential in creating a sound overall structure of your site. This is especially true when your business offers complex or professional advice, or perhaps instruction

Serious information requires easily digestible wording.
